The New York Public Library has held generations of stories, questions, research, imagination, and quiet reflection within its walls.

This chapter invites your team to slow down and experience what happens when words are spoken intentionally in a space built for them to last.

Inside the Rose Main Reading Room, this is not a performance.

It’s a moment of presence.

Instructions

Outside Challenge – Patience & Fortitude

Outside the library, your team must take a photo with Patience and Fortitude — the iconic lions guarding the entrance.

Each team member should strike a pose representing:

the lion inside them right now.

Funny. Powerful. Quiet. Bold.
Interpret it however your team chooses.

Inside Challenge – The Reading Room Reflection

Inside the Rose Main Reading Room:

  1. One team member should read a passage from Dear Black Girl, Let Me Hold Your Pain aloud on camera

  2. The rest of the team listens silently

  3. Afterward, each team member completes the following sentence on camera:

“The girl I needed someone to write this book for was…”

This can be:

  • yourself

  • someone you love

  • someone you’ve never met

  • someone still becoming who they are

Nothing needs to sound perfect.
Only honest.
